A couple Nittany Lions were recognized for their impressive performances this weekend.
DaeSean Hamilton was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Saquon Barkley earned the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Hamilton, who shares the award with Michigan State’s Felton Davis III (nine catches/114 yards/2 TDs), became Penn State’s all-time leader in receptions after tallying nine catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns in the Nittany Lions’ 45-14 win over Indiana. It’s the first offensive honor for him and third overall. Hamilton was the Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice in 2014.
Barkley dazzled from the get-go a few days ago, returning the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown. It was Penn State’s first kickoff return for a touchdown since Chaz Powell housed one against Indiana State in 2011.
Never miss a local story.
Barkley is the first Big Ten player to earn offensive and special teams conference honors in the same season since Michigan’s Jehu Chesson in 2015.
Hamilton, Barkley and the No. 4 Nittany Lions travel to Northwestern for a noon kick on Saturday.
